The Grace Writers 101

There are many kinds of writing groups.
Some are all about critique--tearing apart pages of work and rewriting it.
Some are heavy on instruction, homework and writing right.
Others are all about fun and coffee and fellowship. And if writing happens, that's icing on the cake.

The Grace Writers is a happy balance of all three.
We critique when someone asks for it.
We learn together and work to improve our writing day by day.
We have fun, coffee, and fellowship but we always have an in-group write where, more often than not, magic happens.

If you come to The Grace Writers, expect to be welcomed with open arms.
We're all in process here.
Sure, some ladies write with more experience than others, and that's okay.
No one is judging...(unless you ask for it).
We all began where the newbie is...
Wondering if someone will laugh...and not at the funny part...
Wondering if I'll ever write well...or good...not knowing which word is appropriate (it's well, I think).
And wondering if the ladies seated around the table will one day become my tribe (they will).

Writers love community.
But...many of us are shy.
We prefer to work alone.
Still, we long to connect and belong.
It's a writer's conundrum (for the record I spelled conundrum wrong the first time and spell check fixed it for me).
And that's where a writing group is so helpful.
The ones who aren't shy make it easier for those of us who are.
Pretty soon we can't tell which is which.
And we're all reading our work boldly...out loud...so real people can hear it.
And no one laughs...unless they're supposed to.
And sometimes someone is published and we all rejoice!
And sometimes someone gets a rejection letter and we all encourage.
And sometimes no one submits anything and we all shout, "SUBMIT the thing already!"

So if there is a writing group near you, GO!
Do it!
And if there isn't a writing group near you, join us here on the blog!
